At Fun ’N Sun 2026, we had the opportunity to bring a selection of what we grow at Channel Islands Flowers into a room filled with people who work with flowers every day. And while trade shows are often a place to discover new products and trends, they can also be a reminder of something much simpler:
Flowers are seasonal. And that is part of what makes them special.
Every Season Has Something to Offer
As growers, we experience seasonality every day.
The fields are constantly changing. Varieties come into bloom, peak, and eventually make room for what comes next. What is available today may look completely different a few months from now.
That natural rhythm is part of growing flowers.
It also gives designers something to look forward to.
A new season means new colors, new textures, new varieties, and new possibilities for floral design.
Looking at Flowers Through a Designer’s Eyes
One of the most interesting parts of Fun ’N Sun was seeing how differently people experience the same flower.
A grower might immediately notice stem length, production, or how a variety performs in the field.
A designer may see movement, color combinations, texture, or the potential for a completely different type of arrangement.
Those perspectives may be different, but they ultimately lead to the same place: finding new ways to work with flowers.
And that exchange of ideas is valuable.
Growing Isn’t About Following a Calendar
While floral trends can change quickly, growing flowers follows a different rhythm.
You cannot rush a bloom into season simply because a certain color is trending. The fields have their own timing, and working with that timing is part of what makes locally and domestically grown flowers unique.
For growers, that means paying attention to the seasons and understanding what each one can offer.
For florists, it can mean embracing what is available and allowing seasonal flowers to influence the direction of a design.
Sometimes the most interesting designs begin with what is naturally available, not with a predetermined idea.
What We Take Home From Fun ’N Sun
Our time at Fun ’N Sun gave us the chance to see familiar flowers from a different perspective.
We heard what designers are excited about, saw which varieties sparked curiosity, and had conversations about how flowers are being used across the industry.
Those conversations are valuable because growing is never just about producing a beautiful flower.
It is about understanding where that flower goes next.
It becomes part of a bouquet, an event, a wedding, a retail display, or a design that someone may remember for years.
Growing What Comes Next
At Channel Islands Flowers, we are always looking toward the next season.
Not only for what we will grow, but for what those flowers might inspire.
Fun ’N Sun was a reminder that there is always more to discover in the floral industry, and that some of the best ideas can begin simply by putting a flower in someone’s hands.
