Choosing the Right Grade

When it comes to sourcing flowers, quality isn’t just about how they look at first glance. Behind every stem, there’s a grading system that helps ensure consistency, value, and the right fit for every design.

At Channel Islands Flowers, we use a simple but important classification: G1 and G2. Understanding the difference can completely change how you plan your orders and build your arrangements.

Flower grades are used to evaluate size, strength, and overall appearance. This allows florists to know exactly what they’re getting and choose stems that align with their needs whether it’s for an event, a retail space, or everyday production.

G1, or Grade 1, represents the highest quality. These stems are typically more uniform, with larger blooms and stronger, longer stems. They’re the kind of flowers that stand out immediately, making them ideal for weddings, installations, and any design where presentation is key. When consistency and impact matter, G1 is usually the go-to.

G2, on the other hand, offers a more natural and flexible option. While the blooms may be slightly smaller and show more variation, they still maintain the beauty and freshness needed for great design work. Many florists prefer G2 for daily arrangements or when working within a budget, without compromising the overall look.

Choosing between G1 and G2 isn’t about which one is “better,” but about what works best for your design. Some of the most balanced arrangements actually combine both using G1 for focal flowers and G2 to add volume and movement.

Understanding these differences gives you more control. It helps you design with intention, manage costs more effectively, and meet your clients’ expectations with confidence.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about buying flowers it’s about choosing the right quality for the right purpose.
